Hello Word Life Family!

Happy Wednesday and Happy Day 4 of the Advent Blog!

Today let’s talk about some practical ways to make “Christ the Center of Your Home.”

I will mention 5 key ways to make Christ the center of your physical home!

  1. Set an intentional space for Him. (James 4:8, 1 Chronicles 16:11)
  2. Make “home,” a peaceful, clean and quiet place- think Psalm 23.
  3. Have a prayer closet or a dedicated space to “go into your secret place- and pray! ( Matthew 6:6)
  4. Add things that add to your joy! Don’t you know the son of Man’s joy is our strength? (Nehemiah 8:10)
  5. Take care of it as if your family's version of super heroes tv show characters etc. were coming over. (Colossians 3:23)

Set an Intentional Space for Him

  • Pick an area upon entry, or a main communal area to post a bible verse, chalk board with an encouraging word, a sign with a verse etc.
  • Any reminders of Jesus- a symbol like a cross up and around a dedicated space of your home!

Make your Home peaceful, clean and quiet!

  • Candles, essential oils, warm lighting, background music all are fun ways to create a space for relaxation!
  • Life is busy and families have lots of things! The old saying “Cleanliness is next to godliness,” which isn’t truly the way! God is more concerned with your heart posture and how you honor Him with the gifts and tools He gives you! Everything belongs to Him so treat it as such!
  • Quiet not truly in the literal space but visually! Spaces can get easily cluttered and overwhelming! I’m not sure about you but if spaces are too much I don’t want to be in them! If my goal is to have an inviting space to rest, study and receive from the Lord the space itself must also ”quiet down,” for that small still voice!

Have a Prayer Closet or Dedicated Space

  • Dedicate a room or space for prayer in your home. Let prayer be the cornerstone of your house - the place where battles are won and Christ is the victor!

Add things that add to your joy!

  • Don’t you know the joy of the Lord is your strength? (Nehemiah 8:10)
  • Include things in your space that add to your joy which then adds to your strength!
  • Seeing the things God has given you that add to your joy helps to meditate on what you are grateful for and the God of peace will be with you! (Phillippians 4:8-9 NKJV)
  • The Hebrew word for “Strength,” used in Nehemiah means “a place of safety, protection, refuge or stronghold.” What better way to understand your place of safety- your home- is where the Lord is! He is at the center!

Take care of your home!

  • Treat your home as if it is the resting place of angels and the place where 5 star hotel crictics LOVE to stay at!
  • Act as if you are hosting Jesus every day and you’ll see how quickly you become intentional about keeping spaces a certain way and making each detail as important as the big things!

All in all, I hope these tips help focus your attention to the most high so you may be filled with Him always!

Many Blessings,
